Wet Plate Collodion & Salt print process

WHAT?
Three day advanced workshop of wet plate collodion negative process that will be printed as salt prints

WHERE?
Atelier Zigutamve-Photography, Hofstattgasse 23, A-1180 Vienna (Google Maps)

WHEN?
17th, 18th and 19th of November 2017. We start the day at 9:33 and end the day at about 19:03

WHO?
This is an advanced course, but we will go from the beginning so if you have no experience, you will still be fine. Just expect a whole lot of information. If you want you can also make an ambrotype (wet plate collodion positive) during the workshop, to experience that too.

HOW MUCH?
Three day workshop costs 350 EUR and that includes all material cost and detailed hand out notes with all the steps and receipts. It does not include food and accommodation.

ACCOMODATION?
Should you need some accomodation write to us and we gonna try to recommend some to you. 

RESERVATION?
The workshop is limited for six participants and you get your place by paying the reservation of 100 EUR. The rest you pay at the start of the workshop. The reservation fee is not refundable.

  • how to achieve different densities of a negative
  • what densities are appropriate for what kind of printing processes
  • wet plate with ambient light and with flash light
  • photographing outdoor
  • salt printing, toning with gold, waxing
  • albumen printing and toning with gold
  • troubleshooting

DAY ONE

  • introduction to the processes
  • the difference between wet plate collodion positive and negative
  • reviewing examples of negatives and prints we are expected to be making during the workshop
  • preparation of chemistry and cleaning plates
  • the making of the first wet plate negatives

DAY TWO

  • participants will learn how to make different densities of wet plate negatives
  • how to redevelop a negative
  • what light is appropriate for wet plate negative and how to work in inappropriate light
  • practicing a wet plate negative on still life
  • making a portrait with ambient light or with studio flashes
  • varnishing glass negatives

DAY THREE

  • Photographing outdoor, making more negatives. The goal is that each participant will make several negatives with different densities for different printing processes.
  • Redeveloping. The second development after fixing, for boosting density of collodion negative.
  • varnishing glass plates
  • preparing albumen for printing process
  • preparing gelatin for salt print process
  • seizing paper for salt print process
  • demonstration of salt and albumen printing process

Each participant will receive notes with all the receipts and the most important points to remember.
